Abstract

Background: Dentists have a very high risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders. According to the WHO (2022), approximately 1.71 billion people worldwide suffer from musculoskeletal disorders. Dentists work in a stable and static position, which increases the risk of pain. Musculoskeletal disorders do not only occur in dentists, but also in dental students. This study aims to determine the relationship between dental ergonomics literacy and musculoskeletal disorders among 2023 dental students at RSGM UMY. Methods: This study is an analytical observational study using a cross-sectional approach with a research population of 109 dental students from the class of 2023. The research subjects consisted of 59 samples taken using purposive sampling. Spearman’s correlation test was used for data analysis. Result: The results showed a significant relationship with a p-value of 0.001 (p<0.05), indicationg that the hypothesis was accepted, namely that there is a relationship between dental ergonomics literacy and the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders. The spearman coefficient value was (-0.408), which means that the strength of the relationship is moderate and the direction is negative. Conclusion: There is a relationship between dental ergonomics literacy and the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders among 2023 dental professional students at RSGM UMY.
