Persepsi, Praktik, dan Negoisasi Privasi Digital (Studi Kasus Mahasiswa Unismuh Makassar)
Abstract
Digital privacy has become a crucial issue in students’ lives, particularly amid social media cultures that encourage self-disclosure and intensive information sharing. This study aims to analyze how students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar perceive, practice, and negotiate digital privacy in their social media activities while considering Islamic values. This research employs a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with students from various faculties, complemented by observations of their social media practices. The findings indicate that digital privacy is perceived not merely as the protection of personal data, but also as an effort to safeguard personal dignity, Muslim identity, and reputation in digital spaces. In practice, students utilize various privacy management features, such as private accounts, close friends, hide story options, and the separation between primary and secondary accounts. Furthermore, the practice of wearing hijab on social media reflects the maintenance of moral boundaries and religious identity in online interactions. These findings demonstrate that students’ digital privacy management is dynamic and contextual and can be understood through Communication Privacy Management Theory.
